Overview of Waldorf Education

Waldorf / Steiner Education is developed by Rudolf Steiner in the early twentieth century which is applied philosophy “Anthroposophy” (meaning as the understandings of natural development of human).

Waldorf / Steiner education is a representive of the philosophy based on peace and tolerance. Waldorf education was built in a vision of improving the quality of human society by helping the complete of personality in each person, recognizing and developing their potential ability and strong points for their self-confidence in construction and dedication to society. In Waldorf /Steiner education methods, children are considered as active authors of their own development.

 

The will, vitality, dynamism, self-study and natural balance, self-development ability through experience will have great influences on the development of children. In the fully loving, natural and cozy environment, Waldorf education is designed in high aesthetics with natural materials, teaching and learning equipments in natural and purposeful orientation which provides a strong message about the curriculum and respect to children. Waldorf education program is a focus on Humanity Centre approach, in which the relationship between school, family & society plays an important role in comprehensive education for children and encouragement for their desire of knowledge. Waldorf teachers concentrate their efforts on teaching methods through being a truly good example for children to iliminate.

Waldorf curriculum is designed to target the comprehensive education. The program structure is to meet three stages of children development – from birth to age 7, 7 – 14 years old, and 14 to 21 years old. Waldorf / Steiner Education focuses on nurturing the self-improvement of children. In Waldorf programs, Music, Dance and Drama, Literature, Legends and Tales, Mathematics, and Science are not just subjects but also opportunities to feel, explore the world around and discover themselves to acquire life experience. Through these experiences, their emotion, physical and mental abilities will be shaped and perfected by themselves to become dependent people and the knowledge of how to use their abilities for their own objectives and living.

Waldorf / Steiner Early Childhood Education is disincentive to teach early literacy or intellectually, with the desire of protecting chidren’s self-study ability. Waldorf / Steiner Early Childhood Education is based on some important educational principles of rhythm and habits; setting an example, model & imitation; Self-helf skill and senses development for children.

Waldorf Education all over the World

In early 1900, educator and philosopher Rudolf Steiner Austria was looking to make a new kind of education helps students achieve clarity in thinking, emotional sensitivity and strength of willpower. After his speech, the audience at the meeting had asked him to open a school for their children, and in 1919, Steiner first school was established in Germany. Today, there are over 1,039 schools and 2,000 kindergartens and 700 childcare centers in the philosophy Waldorf / Steiner in more than 60 countries established for ages newborn to 18 years old.

Waldorf Preschool Education with Vietnamese PerspectiveTM (WEVTM METHOD)

WEVTM Methods (Waldorf/Steiner Education with Vietnamese Perspective) follow Pease Peace Idealism, promoting moral values and responsible humanity. WEVTM aim to help children realize and develop the capabilities and strengths; discover & develop potential. Features of the program as below.

  • A focus on real rather than virtual experiences to support the child in forming a healthy relationship to the world.
  • Artistic activities such as storytelling, music, drawing and painting, rhythmic games, and modeling that foster the healthy development of imagination and creativity
  • Meaningful practical work such as cooking, baking, gardening, handwork and domestic activity that provide opportunities to develop unfolding human capacities. Here the emphasis is on the processes of life rather than on learning outcomes
  • Predictable rhythms through the day, week and year that provide security and a sense of the interrelationships and wholeness of life
  • Seasonal and other festivals are celebrated according to the cultural and geographical surroundings
